Maybe. I think Trump wants the appearance of a deal more than a clean, boring
diplomatic agreement. That does not mean there is no deal to be had, but the
incentives are ugly.
Markets like drama as long as they believe somebody has a hand on the wheel. Oil
likes uncertainty. Cable news likes the countdown clock. Politicians like
looking tough right up until the bill comes due.
The test is pretty simple: does the administration define what Iran actually has
to do, what the U.S. gives up in return, and what happens if both sides comply?
If the answer stays vague, then it is probably theater with missiles parked
behind the curtain.
